What is LudoSport?
LudoSport is an international sporting discipline based around light saber combat.
It combines technique, movement, strategy and community in a structured training system designed for adults and older teens. You do not need martial arts experience, stage combat experience, or a particular fitness level to start.
At LudoSport Britannia, we teach beginners from the ground up through weekly classes and a progressive syllabus.
A real sport, not roleplay
LudoSport uses light sabers, but the training is not about pretending to be a film character.
It is a structured combat sport with defined rules, technical forms, sparring, progression and instructor-led classes. Students learn how to move, defend, attack, control distance, read opponents and improve over time.
The light saber makes the activity exciting and accessible, but the training itself is grounded, physical and skill-based.
What happens in a LudoSport class?
A typical class includes warm-ups, movement drills, technical exercises, partner practice and controlled sparring.
Beginners start with the basics: footwork, guards, strikes, distance, control and safety. You build skill gradually rather than being thrown in at the deep end.
Classes are active, but they are designed so people can start from different fitness levels. You will move, learn, make mistakes, improve and train alongside other people doing the same.
A structured path from beginner to advanced training
LudoSport is taught through a progressive syllabus. Students begin with the foundation forms and develop more advanced skills over time.
As you progress, you learn new techniques, tactical ideas and weapon styles, always within a shared international system. This means a student training in Leeds, Manchester, Bristol, Coventry, Essex, Birmingham, York or any other LudoSport school in the world is working within the same wider discipline.
Progression is not about rushing through belts or collecting titles. It is about becoming more controlled, more confident and more capable.
Who can train LudoSport?
LudoSport is for people who want something active, social and different.
It suits people who like learning a skill, enjoy structured training, or want a sport that feels more engaging than just going to the gym. Some students come from martial arts, fencing, dance, theatre, gaming, fitness or other sports. Many come with no background at all.
You do not need to be athletic, flexible, confident or experienced before you start. Those things develop through training.
Good fit for people who want:
-
A weekly activity with real progression
-
A welcoming adult community
-
Something physical but not intimidating
-
Skill-based training rather than random workouts
-
A sport that feels unusual without being childish
More than a weekly class
One of the biggest reasons people stay in LudoSport is the community.
Classes are social, supportive and built around shared progress. You train with people who want to improve, but who also want the person opposite them to improve. That creates a very different feeling from many competitive or high-pressure environments.
Across Britannia, students can attend events, workshops, tournaments and seminars, and become part of a wider international LudoSport network.
Safety and control
LudoSport is a combat sport, so safety and control matter.
Training is built around clear rules, protective equipment where needed, respectful partner work and instructor supervision. Beginners are taught how to move and strike safely before anything becomes more dynamic.
The aim is not to overpower people. The aim is to develop timing, control, awareness and skill.
Is it a martial art, fencing, or stage combat?
LudoSport has similarities with all three, but it is its own discipline.
Like martial arts, it has technique, etiquette, progression and partner training. Like fencing, it involves distance, timing and weapon-based combat. Like stage combat, it can look dramatic from the outside.
But LudoSport is not traditional martial arts, Olympic fencing or performance choreography. It is a modern sporting discipline with its own rules, syllabus, culture and training method.
LudoSport Britannia
LudoSport Britannia is the largest UK academy in the international LudoSport network.
We run classes and discovery sessions across multiple schools, helping new students discover the sport and continue into regular weekly training.
Each school has its own local instructors and community, while remaining connected to the wider Britannia and international LudoSport family.
